Hiscoe Hanshi’s Martial Arts History
Hiscoe Hanshi started his Jiu-Jitsu career in the mid-70s with his two sons, James and Steve, when they were five and six years old. James Hiscoe sensei holds the rank of 4th Degree Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt. Steve Hiscoe, Shihan, holds the rank of 8th Degree Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt and operates a highly successful Jiu-Jitsu Dojo in Chilliwack British Columbia.
While Professor Georges Sylvain, 10th degree black belt and founder of the Canadian System of Jiu-Jitsu know as Can-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu, was still active in the martial arts community, Hiscoe Hanshi worked with him extensively. Together they produced instructional videos including, The Persuader Key Holder Self-Defense System, Police Pressure Point Techniques and The Use and Application of Pepper Spray Against Dogs. They also conducted regular Black Belt Classes over the years and those instructional sessions were videoed and are kept on file for reference. They are available to Instructors who are interested in learning advanced self-defense techniques and tactics.
Hiscoe Hanshi continues to conduct these special Black Belt classes under the Black Belt College in which participants may earn an official teaching license and be graded accordingly to higher black belt dan ranks. Hiscoe Hanshi confers with affiliated Canadian Jiu-Jitsu Union Dojo owners across Canada on a regular basis to ensure the Can-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu System is maintained in the highest caliber.
